Chris Manhertz agrees to terms with Jaguars, per report

The Jacksonville Jaguars have been a bit slow out of the gate in the big name free agent market, instead filling out some depth and special teams and it looks like the latest move of agreeing to terms with former Carolina Panthers tight end Chris Manhertz falls in that same vein.

Many expected the Jaguars to go hard for a tight end in free agency, but unfortunately the New England Patriots gobbled up both Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry, the two top targets on the market and guys the Jaguars were reportedly in on.

Manhertz is a good pickup as a depth player and potential starter, but he’s more of the blocking variety of tight end. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule often lauded Manhertz’s blocking ability, as the best blocking tight end in the NFL. Adding something like that is value for the Jaguars, especially if James Robinson is expected to still be a feature in the offense.

The Jaguars should not be done in the tight end market, though.
